change of idea

I am going to change my idea from children to either comunity radio or something related to women as i dont think i am going to be able to get hold of the children for my primary research.

Your first ideas

Since you want to look at presenters as well, because of your career aims, why not look at the RANGE of gender reps across childrens TV programming. You could include adverts, cartoons and TV presenters. Then for primary you could show clips to children and ask them to say how men and women/boys and girls are different in the clips, and why they know that, and whether they think men and women/boys and girls are really like that.

research for children and TV

read a bit of 'children television and gender roles' by Elena Beasly (http://www.aber.ac.uk/media/Students/elb9501.html)

some good quotes that could be used.
says the tv is dominated by males 3:1 and about male gaze. Might investigate further about male gaze.

My initial idea

How is gender represented to children in adverts?
